My Story

Movement for Life

Hi I'm Karen Charles and I've been a swimming teacher for over 40 years, and a Fitness Instructor for over 10 years.  I'm passionate about helping people to get back to moving with ease. I discovered AquaStretch when I was suffering from debilitating pain myself and was considering giving up being a fitness instructor. However, after having had regular treatments , I realised the positive effect it could have and loved it so much that I became a qualified AquaStretch Facilitator and Tutor.  Since lockdown and not being able to get into a swimming pool,  I discovered other ways of maintaining my physical wellbeing.  These have been through different corrective exercise programmes (Pain-Free Movement Programme (see below) & BioMechanics Method Corrective Exercise Programme), that have allowed me and others to maintain our physical and mental wellbeing.  So if you wish to get moving again with ease, please feel free to contact me to discuss how  to start your journey to living the life you want, not a life in pain.

PAIN FREE MOVEMENT SPECIALIST.

The pain free movement programme is a correctional exercise programme for people in chronic pain. This is a gentle exercise programme to get you moving with ease and in a functional way.

Everyone's pain is different, so each programme is designed around the individual. This session can be booked after having a Full Body Assessment appointment. This is effective and non-invasive corrective exercise program designed to address chronic pain and musculoskeletal limitations without drugs or manipulation.

My goal is to empower you to feel, move, and perform better in a life without physical limitations. At Mobility Therapies I want to ignite your passion so you can learn how to change your life through movement. I want to meet you where you need to be met both physically and emotionally. I tailor the exercise programmes based not only your physical goal and capabilities, but also your preference for movement. I believe there is nothing worse in an exercise programme than making someone do something they absolutely dread or fear, regardless of how beneficial we believe it is.

Pain is a complex experience, and it affects everyone differently. As such, I listen first and move second.

PERSONALIZED PROGRAMMES TO ELIMINATE YOUR PAIN

The pain experience for everyone is unique and personal. Yet we all want and need to move to fully enjoy all that life has to offer.

Regardless of your past experiences with other providers, stress-free, efficient movement is the foundational pillar of a pain-free life. I want to help you discover the key ingredients to your path to success. It’s not just about exercise. It is about the right exercises, for the right person, at the right time and in the right amounts.

The path to chronic pain is never a straight and narrow course. It is a combination of physical events, many forms of stressors and even changes in your brain chemistry. When most people seek out treatment for chronic pain, they often look at the immediate “source” of their pain: the knee, the back, or whatever is hurting. That one part is the focus of their treatment, and nothing else is really looked at. What most people don’t realise, however, is that the pain experience has many ingredients. In many cases, the pain you’re experiencing now is often the result of a series of small events that, when looked at as a whole, leads to your challenges of today. Start your journey here.

The best thing I never knew I needed

Karen is fabulous, and AquaStretch (which I had never heard of before meeting Karen!) has been a revelation to me. I train hard, I didn't "need" rehabilitation from anything and yet this has enabled quicker recovery from stiffness better flexibility so I can lift heavier and stretch further.  I am a Tri-Athlete and often training tightens up my quads and hamstrings.  Nothing sorts it out better.

The unexpected side effects of also sorting out my pre-menstrual migraines... this has been the best discovery I didn't know I needed!   Thanks so much Karen
